Boss Jock Bob Ray BARHOF 2019 Inductee
August 6, 2019Return of Peter B and the Boss 30
September 2, 2019Meet our Boss Jock of the Month, Raechel Donahue!
Raechel’s parents swore she was vaccinated with a phonograph needle, as after her first words she never stopped talking.
Although Raechel didn’t aspire to become a deejay, she and her husband Tom Donahue were responsible for creating the groundbreaking “underground” radio station KMPX in San Francisco in 1967, followed by the legendary KSAN and its Los Angeles sister station KMET. Going on the air was almost inevitable. Her long career has seen her partner up with Rick Dees on KIIS FM, ride the New Wave success of KROQ, head up her own morning shows on KWST and The Edge, and provide voices for hundreds of movies and television shows.
Raechel turned to documentary filmmaking in the last decade, producing and directing three films for PBS, producing several others for independent producers. Her writing career has included several books (most of which are now out of print!) and scores of travel articles for USA Today Travel Tips, eHow, and AZ Central. Basically, she’ll write copy for the back of a cereal box if the money is right.
Currently holding forth on Boss Boss Radio on Sunday mornings, this longtime radio personality spends most of her time either in Mexico, Europe, or on a cruise ship to somewhere. In her spare time, she does safety announcements for Wells Fargo and other major companies. Her goal is to become the voice that instructs jet fighter pilots to “Eject! Eject!” because she thinks she has the kind of voice that makes you think your mother is issuing a command you should obey. Meanwhile, she just keeps playin’ that ol’ rock and roll.
