If you guessed Tush by ZZ Top, you are correct!
Today’s Bill Campbell What’s That Song made its debut in 1975. Written by the ZZ Top trio Joe Hill, Frank Beard, and Billy Gibbons, Tush was the only single off the group’s fourth album, Fandango! The group recorded the song between December 1974 and March 1975, releasing it shortly thereafter.
Did you know…
- In a 1985 Spin magazine interview, Dusty Hill explained the title is a double entendre, referring both to slang for buttocks (with the connotation of “a piece of ass”), and slang for “luxurious” or “lavish.’
- The song made it to the 20th position on Billboard’s Top 100.
- ZZ Top came up with this song while practicing a few hours before a gig at a rodeo arena in Florence, Alabama.
- Multiple artists have covered Tush, including Joan Jett and Nazareth.
- Tush was most recently used as part of the soundtrack for the 2019 Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
Tush by ZZ Top
I been up, I been down
Take my word, my way around
I ain’t askin’ for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I’m just lookin’ for some tush
I been bad, I been good
Dallas, Texas, Hollywood
I ain’t askin’ for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I’m just lookin’ for some tush
Take me back way back home
Not by myself, not alone
I ain’t askin’ for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I’m just lookin’ for some tush
