Born in El Paso, Texas and raised in Tornillo, Boss Boss Radio’s Boss Jock of the month, Jamey Karr, has known for a very long time that he wanted to be on the radio. “I saw KINT’s Sonny Melendrez doing a live remote when I was 10 and quickly put together this was a job where I could play Beatles records and get paid,” Jamey says.

Jamey got into radio through the El Paso Junior Achievement program at age 14. He’s worked in Top 40 and Country Music Radio, and even a Middle of The Road (MOR) station before he graduated from high school. Jamey moved to Amarillo, Texas to attend West Texas State University in Canyon. He ended up staying and has worked at just about every station in town including AM Top40 powerhouse KPUR where he became the program director.

Then Jamey went into teaching radio..he became an instructor at Amarillo College and program director of their station for 15 years. He left there to become operations manager of six stations Amarillo. In 2002, Jamey settled into his longest gig on the air and became operations manager and co-host of the morning show for Norm Feuer’s “The Eagle,” an FM Classic Hits station, and stayed there for 17 years. During his tenure, “The Eagle” quickly became Amarillo’s number one station and remained number one ever since to this day.

Jamey left “The Eagle” in 2017 to take over the programming responsibilities at one of the adult contemporary stations in town.  Currently, Jamey devotes all of his time at Boss Boss Radio, assisting the programming effort and bringing some of his “number one” philosophy and experience to The Boss. Jamey has been Inducted to Texas Panhandle Broadcasters Hall Of Fame, Amarillo College Hall Of Fame, and last month was inducted into West Texas A&M University Communication Hall of Fame.
