Nothing But Old 45s Flip Sides
May 3, 2019Remembering Peter B
May 18, 2019Welcome to Wayne’s World… The Insane Darrell Wayne’s world that is. Since he can remember, Darrell had the radio bug first getting his feet wet at the tender age of 15. Darrell kicked off his long, illustrious radio career at the Orange County radio station KEZY where he would do anything, and everything asked of him. For 2 ½ years, Darrell managed equipment and phone lines until opportunity knocked opening the door for him to begin broadcasting. That was 1972.
In the years since, Darrell has worn many hats from engineering work to program development to operation management to a 5-year stint as an on-air personality at KROQ in Southern California—where he became known as The Insane Darrell Wayne. KROQ known for its free form broadcast style without limitations fostered a party-like atmosphere that infiltrated the airwaves as well as its disc jockeys. Even though many years have passed since parting ways with KROQ, Darrell has kept his finger on the pulse of the airwaves.
One day it happened. While vacationing in Lake Tahoe, California, the staff at K-Tahoe approached Darrell with an opportunity he felt he couldn’t refuse. Apparently, dreams do come true, and Darrell Wayne, insanely purchased the radio station. Now he had a springboard for featuring not only classic rock but new music as well from the likes of classic artists Elton John and Duran Duran, along with KTHO-Local Talk radio. KROQ paved the way for Darrell’s success.
Today, The Insane Darrell Wayne stays busy with his syndicated show, The Latest from the Greatest, and running K-Tahoe as well as hosting his regular Boss Boss Radio show weekdays from 3pm to 6pm.
