WE’RE BACK!
February 20, 2019Hall and Oates to Perform at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas
March 12, 2019Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Big Mike loved music and would sit and listen to the radio for hours at a time as a young boy. By the time Mike was in the 8th grade, he was all set to DJ his school dance with his parents’ home stereo system and his small record collection.
Big Mike caught a lucky break when he was in the 10th grade when he did a co-op at the local radio station CKWS 96 AM. Working in the library and cataloging the music was the first task. It wasn’t long before he was helping in production and learning the controls. About 2 weeks before the co-op was over the program director at the time—Jack Thompson–offered him a job as an operator (producer). And it wasn’t long after that, that Big Mike hit the air on the overnights. Radio was a fun experience that helped Mike land a job doing evenings at CKOB and CKOA in the Ottawa Valley.
Kingston has one of the oldest community radio stations CFRC 101. 9FM. When Big Mike’s longtime radio friend Jim Birtch asked him to do a show at CFRC, Mike created The Canadian Shield, a one hour show about Canadian Music and artists. It was Jim who recommended BossBossRadio to Mike and suggested he check us out. That was in April 2013, and Big Mike has been heard ever since on The Boss.
When asked about how to prepare for a show that is heard around the world Big Mike had this to say, “I choose topics that everyone can relate to, whether you are in Germany, Australia, Barbados, or down the street from my studio, keeping it engaging and relatable.” Mike has spun records for hundreds of weddings, played in bars, at roller rinks, and backyard parties.
You can catch Big Mike as he wakes up with the eastern part of The Western Hemisphere beginning 6am Eastern, 3am Pacific, playing the Greatest Boss Hits of All Time and having Boss Fun with his Stoopid Criminal of The Day, Impossible Trivia and more. You can find him on Facebook and Instagram.
