Today’s Bill Campbell What’s That Song, written by Mark Farner,  appeared on Grand Funk’s 1974 album, All the Girls in the  World Beware!!! Reaching #4 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 list in 1975, it was the group’s final single (of four) to reach to the Top 10 and final top 40 U.S. hit.

Mark Farner, vocalist with Grand Funk at the time, wrote Bad Time while going through a divorce with his first wife. Farner recalls, “I was getting a divorce. • Bad Time was recorded during the two-year period in which Grand Funk Railroad was known as simply Grand Funk. After the release of Bad Time, the group returned to the Grand Funk Railroad name.

• Bad Time peaked at #19 on New Zealand’s RIANZ list.
• In 1975 Bad Time ranked #61 on Billboard‘s Top 100, #76 on Cash Box Top 100, and #46 on Canada’s RPM list.
• Bad Time was covered byThe Jayhawks in 1995 (peaked at #40 on the UK SIngles Chart) and by Guns N’ Roses in the early 1990s.
