Hollywood Record Show… All Things Music!
October 9, 2019You have no doubt heard a lot about podcasting over the last decade or so. You’ve probably also heard promos on The Boss for shows from our podcast division, Mouthful Media. Whether you’re a podcast junkie (for example, John Van Camp listens to 40 pods every week) or you’ve never listened to one, here are some FAQs about podcasts from our podcasting partner Mouthful Media.
Q: What is a Podcast?
A: A Podcast (term coined by Apple during its iPod era) is an on-demand audio program that is served over the internet, generally available in episodes of various lengths
Q: What Types of Programs are Available on Podcasts?
A: Anything you can imagine is likely available on a podcast. There are thousands and thousands of themes and topics available. If you are a hobbyist or a foodie, or even a ‘Lost” fan there are shows you’ll want to hear. Maybe you like computers, or want to listen to journalistic-themed shows, mysteries, you name it, there’s likely plenty of pods to listen to. There’s even one hosted by John Lennon (Search for “Talks With John”)
Q: How Do I Listen to Podcasts?
A: Generally, pods (podcasts can sometimes be referred to as “pods” for short) can be listened to via your smartphone or tablet, though you can also listen with a computer. Unless you are listening via the show’s own website, you will need a podcast app to search for shows and to subscribe.
Q: What Does It Cost to Listen to a Podcast or to Subscribe?
A: Podcasts are free to subscribe and listen to, sometimes they are ad-supported and often you will encounter the show’s host reading the commercials, unlike a regular radio program that plays pre-recorded and highly produced commercials. You can subscribe to virtually every podcast available publicly for free.
Q: Why Do I Need to Subscribe to a Podcast?
A: If you like a particular show (say the daily “Who Cares News” from Van Camp and Morgan) and want to make sure your podcast app finds new episodes when they are uploaded to the internet, subscribing via your app will ensure the new episodes are automatically ready to listen to on-demand in your device.
Q: Can I Listen in My Car?
A: Yes. Just like any digital audio product you can connect your smart device to your car audio unit via a myriad of methods you can find here. Then just play your favorite pod through your car audio system like you would Boss Boss Radio.
